Privacy Policy

Last updated November 5, 2026

Sng Enterprises, LLC operates Masons on the Level. This policy explains what the site collects, why it is collected, who receives it, and the choices you have. It covers the whole site: the essays, the biographies, the museum, the store, design inquiries, and the contact form.

The site is an independent project. It is not an official website of any Grand Lodge or lodge.

Who to contact

Questions about this policy, a request to see or delete your information, and corrections all go through the contact page. Write “Privacy” in the subject line.

Information you give us

Contact form

If you write to us, we receive your name, email address, subject, and message, and we use them to reply. Cloudflare Turnstile checks the form for automated abuse. Akismet, a spam-filtering service from Automattic, may also receive the message, your IP address, and your browser information so it can judge whether the submission is spam. Akismet’s policy is at akismet.com/privacy.

Comments

If comments are open on an article and you leave one, we store your name, email address, the comment, and the time it was posted. Your IP address and browser may be stored to detect spam. Your email address is not published with the comment.

Store accounts and orders

If you buy something, the store keeps what it needs to take the order and send it: your name, email address, billing address, shipping address, phone number if you provide one, the items, and the total. If you create an account, we also store a username and a password that has been hashed. We do not store your full payment-card number on this website.

Card payments are processed by Stripe. If Klarna is offered at checkout, Klarna processes that payment. Those companies collect payment details under their own policies: Stripe and Klarna.

WooCommerce also records how an order reached the site, such as the page you landed on and whether a campaign link was used. That information can be stored with the order.

Information collected when you browse

When you open a page, the server records log data: your IP address, browser type, the page requested, the time, and the address of the page that sent you. We use logs to run the site, fix errors, and block abuse.

The site is served through Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes IP addresses to deliver pages and to filter attacks. Its policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Cookies and similar tools

A cookie is a small file a site stores on your device. We use cookies and similar tools for the following:

  • The store uses cookies to remember the cart and to keep you signed in.
  • Google Tag Manager loads measurement and store tags. Those tags can record pages you view and store events, such as viewing a product or adding it to the cart, and can send that information to Google and to other tools connected in Tag Manager.
  • Jetpack, from Automattic, provides site statistics and store analytics. It uses cookies and sends usage data to WordPress.com. Details are at jetpack.com/support/privacy.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics may record a limited measurement of page views. Cloudflare Turnstile runs on the contact form.
  • The browser also requests fonts and scripts from Google, jsDelivr, cdnjs, and Font Awesome. Those services receive your IP address when the file is requested.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser. The cart, checkout, and a signed-in account may stop working if you do.

Advertising

We may show ads from Google AdSense and from other advertising partners. Third parties, including Google, may place and read cookies on your browser, or use web beacons and your IP address, to collect information as a result of ad serving on this website. Ads may be based on your visits to this site and to other sites on the internet.

How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

You can opt out of personalized Google ads at Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of many other advertising companies at the DAA WebChoices page and the NAI opt-out page.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not give advertisers a list of readers. Advertising cookies are how those companies select and measure ads.

How we use information

  • To publish the site and reply to messages.
  • To take, ship, and support orders, and to keep the tax and accounting records those orders require.
  • To keep the site secure and to reduce spam.
  • To understand which pages and products are used.
  • To show and measure advertising.
  • To comply with law.

A message sent through the contact form is not added to a mailing list. We write back to the address you gave us.

Who receives information

We share information with the companies that process it for the site: Cloudflare and the host, Stripe for payments, Automattic for Jetpack and Akismet, Google for Tag Manager, fonts, and advertising, and a carrier when an order has to be shipped. We also share information when the law requires it, or when it is needed to protect the site, our readers, or our rights.

Those companies may process information in the United States and in other countries where they operate.

How long we keep it

  • Contact messages are kept long enough to answer, and for a reasonable time after that in case you write again.
  • Orders and related accounting records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require.
  • An account is kept until you ask us to delete it, except for records we still have to retain.
  • Server logs and analytics follow the retention settings of the host and the analytics tools.
  • Comments stay up until you ask us to remove them, or until we remove them as spam or abuse.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Payment-card details are collected by the payment processor, not stored as a full card number here. No method of sending or storing information is perfectly secure. Do not send a password, a full card number, or the modes of recognition through the contact form.

Children

This site is written for adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, use the contact page and we will delete it.

Your choices

You may refuse cookies in your browser, use the advertising opt-out links above, and ask us what personal information we hold about you. You may ask for a correction or for deletion. Write through the contact page. We will delete information you ask us to delete, unless we have to keep it for an order, a tax record, a security incident, or a legal claim. You may also ask us to close a store account.

If you live in California, you may ask for the categories of personal information we have collected about you. We do not sell personal information. To limit advertising cookies, use the opt-out links in the Advertising section, or write to us.

Links to other sites

Essays and the store sometimes link to lodges, books, and other sites we do not operate. Their collection of information is their own business. Read their policies before you give them personal information.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. The terms that govern use of the site are on the terms and conditions page.
